Methodology and
Application
DIGAMIX® and DIMIKUR® instruments,
manufactured by Wösthoff, GmbH, employ variable or constant stroking, positive
displacement pumps to produce high-precision gas flows, dilute pure or
prediluted compressed gas standards and produce multi-component precision gas
mixtures.
These gas concentrations and precision gas flows are used for calibration of
ambient, process and continuous emission (CEM) gas analyzers, monitors,
detectors and gas chromatographs. They are also used in pulmonary and
respiratory analysis; controlled bioclimatic research chambers; bioreactors; and
other industrial process, environmental, laboratory and research applications
where high precision gases are required. These pumps may also be used as
precision gas forwarding units for individual or multiple gas
streams.
Accuracy and Dilution Increments
Driven by single
3-phase synchronous motors, DIGAMIX® instruments deliver better than
± 0.25% to ± 1.00% gas dilution accuracies, relative to the selected dilution
concentration. Accuracy depends upon the specific DIGAMIX pump model or gas
dilution system used.
Volumetrically-fixed (primary standard),
piston/cylinder pumps provide repeatable standard dilution increments from
fractional percent to 99.99%. Individual DIGAMIX pump units may be cascaded to
achieve still lower dilution levels, providing maximum user flexibility. DIMIKUR
micro-dosing dilution systems achieve gas concentrations as low as 2-10
ppb.
Ambient Operating Conditions
All DIGAMIX® pumps
operate at near ambient gas pressure(s) and equal gas temperature(s),
eliminating random error from differences or changes in gas input temperatures
or pressures. Final diluted gas concentrations are normally delivered at ambient
pressure, although DIGAMIX units may be augmented with a forwarding pump if
additional output pressure is required.

Controls
Manually interchangeable gear pairs; dynamically switchable
dials (shown on Model M/300a above); pushbutton or PC activated control options
are all available. User options also include manual or automated gas input
controls which are sensitive to differential pressure changes as low as ±1.0 mm
water gage pressure. DIGAMIX gas dilution systems are available as bench-top,
portable or 19" rack mount units.
Low Boiling Point Liquids
Gas
dilution mixtures may also be prepared with DIGAMIX® and
DIMIKUR® from low boiling point liquids such as benzene, toluene,
hexane, carbontetrachloride and others using the saturation-vapor pressure
method.
